The subspecialty of oncology known as “surgical oncology” focuses specifically on the surgical management of cancer. 5. Prophylactic Surgery: Surgery to reduce or remove a patient’s cancer risk by removing a healthy or undiagnosed organ.
6. Reconstructive Surgery: The objective of this treatment is to restore function to a structure or organ that has been damaged by cancer. It can be used to restore function to an area that has been damaged by radiation or chemotherapy or to replace a missing organ.
